From the very beginning, he was charismatic, attentive, and truly listened to what we were looking for. We were dealing with some challenges at our previous complex, and Johnny went above and beyond by even researching options to help us understand how we could get out of that lease; something he absolutely didn’t have to do, but it made a huge difference for us. He showed us a wide range of apartments, thoughtfully balancing our budget with our lifestyle, and he really took into account the things we didn’t like about our old place. Every showing felt intentional, not rushed or cookie-cutter. Johnny also made the entire move-in process seamless and stress-free, which is saying a lot when it comes to apartment moves. We are new to D.C. and Johnny took the time to talk to us about the surrounding neighborhood and genuinely shared his enthusiasm for the Novel community. It’s clear he truly loves his job and believes in the place he works and lives! His energy is contagious! We couldn’t be happier with our experience and are so grateful for his support throughout the process. Highly recommend Novel!

I've been living at Novel 14th Street for 4 months now and have had overall a really positive experience! The apartments themselves are just so thoughtfully designed – I'm still in love with the blue cabinets – and there's so many big and little things that just make going about my day easier and make the most of all the space in the apartment.… I've been living at Novel 14th Street for 4 months now and have had overall a really positive experience! The apartments themselves are just so thoughtfully designed – I'm still in love with the blue cabinets – and there's so many big and little things that just make going about my day easier and make the most of all the space in the apartment. This includes the built-in seat and shoe self by the entry door, the self re-filling pitcher in the fridge, and combination kitchen island/countertop/dining table. The amenities throughout the building are also excellent. I frequently used the rooftop pool over the summer, have many times used the coworking spaces on the roof and 1st floor (which especially comes in handy when the cafe's tables inevitably fill up during the day), and the gym is well stocked with equipment (and a tv screen for follow-along recorded classes). I'm even still now discovering some of the amenities – I just found the bike storage room in the garage last week! And all the staff here has been wonderful. Johnny and Carston have been very friendly and helpful with any questions and throughout the move-in process – same for the front desk, maintenance and other management staff! And I've really appreciated all the events that the leasing and welcome staff have hosted - it really feels like they are trying to build community here in the building and beyond. This isn't to say that everything has been perfect, but I do get the sense that everyone is really trying their best. For example, over the summer the AC went out for 1 day, and throughout it the leasing staff kept in communication with us about fixing progress, and even gave us gelato popsicles afterwards to make up for it. Financially, with the current 2 month discount, I do feel like I'm getting my money's worth. A final note: this is my third apartment in Columbia heights (I've lived here since 2022), and I'm so grateful that the Novel was built here to welcome both new DC residents and those already living in the area, to this really amazing, diverse, and vibrant neighborhood. I do hope the 1-star reviewers (who don't live in this building) find it in their hearts one day to welcome old and new neighbors to this corner of Columbia heights.

I had such a great experience at Novel Apartments thanks to Johnny! He was professional, patient, and super friendly — truly made the whole process smooth and enjoyable. He took the time to answer all my questions and gave me a full tour with great energy. I even got a free coffee, which was a nice touch in this economy! 😅 The apartment I loved… I had such a great experience at Novel Apartments thanks to Johnny! The amenities are exactly what I was looking for: a full gym that’s perfect for keeping up with any workout routine, an in-building café that’s a lifesaver for any caffeine cravings, and fantastic co-working spaces with both private and shared areas to fit any kind of workspace need. The building has a great sense of community, and the neighborhood itself is vibrant and fun to explore. A special shoutout to Johnny Cruz for making the move-in smooth and stress-free and always ensuring residents feel supported. Excited to call Novel 14th home — and this is just the beginning!
